Reception
Welcome to Reception
We have really enjoyed welcoming the Reception children into school this week. They are all settling well and it has been great watching and helping them explore the classroom environment. The members of staff in Reception are – Mrs Dickson (Teacher); Mrs Jordan (Teaching Assistant). There is a ‘Meet the Teacher and Curriculum Evening’ after school on Wednesday 12th September if you would like to introduce yourself and have an informal chat!
PE
PE is on Friday mornings and will start on Friday, (14th September). The PE kit consists of a bag that contains pumps/trainers, blue shorts and a plain white T-shirt, which are clearly labelled with your child’s name. In case of colder weather, blue or black leggings or trackies can be worn.
Playtime & Snacks
Your child will have a slice of toast and milk during our self-service snack time. Toast costs 75p a week and can be paid to Mrs Jordan on a Monday morning. Fruit will also be given to the children during the afternoon.
Entrance to School
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we will, in time, do some handwriting or number activities which will involve name writing/letter and number formation, and we encourage, (if possible), parents and carers to stay and help their child with that for just a few minutes. We will also start a short story sharing session, (Tuesdays).
If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. After using the breakfast cafe, please go on to the playground.
If you have any questions or worries then please come in and see me either between 8:45am – 8:55am or after school. If these times are not possible please contact the office to make an appointment.
We hope your child will be very happy in Reception and we look forward to working with them.
Kind regards,
Mrs Dickson
Class teacher
Reading and Homework
We strongly believe that every child’s reading journey begins with sharing quality stories together. We would really encourage you to enjoy reading to your child as often as possible, and we will continue to visit our school library every week on a Tuesday so that the children can choose a book to put in their book bag and bring home. We will also be developing the children’s reading skills and will be reading with them on Tuesdays and Fridays, and your child will bring home a book and a reading record. Please read with your child for 10 minutes each night and write in their reading record. Also starting soon will be our Phonics programme and we will continue with Phase 2 phonics – all about building letters to make words and feeding into the children’s reading and writing. We will keep you informed as we go along, and there will certainly be some activities to bring home.
School Uniform
Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers and cardigans – this helps with mix-ups and ensures lost items can be returned! Please provide a kit bag for your child with spare clothes, in case of toileting accidents.
School Fund
School fund is 50p a week and will be collected every Monday. It is possible to pay half termly. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and prize point prizes.
Key Groups
All the children will be in a key group – either Starfish or Pufferfish. We firmly believe that these smaller groups help the children to feel secure within a large class, and help to develop relationships, both with other children and members of staff. Mrs Dickson will be leading the Pufferfish and Mrs Jordan will be leading the Starfish. The children will be in these groups for library visits and other times as well.
