Reception
Welcome to Reception
This year your child will be working with Miss Hayhurst, Mrs McDonagh and Mrs Thornley. Over the year we will cover lots of fun topics. Our first topic will be ‘Marvellous Me’.
PE
Kit Bags and PE Kit
Please ensure your child has a kit bag with at least one spare full set of clothes including socks and underwear. This is in case of toileting accidents as well as for messy activities.
Reception’s PE day will be on a Friday, so please ensure your child is wearing their PE kit and appropriate footwear to school on that day. The PE kit consists of trainers, blue shorts / jogging bottoms and a plain white T-shirt which are clearly labelled with your child’s name. PE lessons will be outdoors until further notice.
Playtime & Snacks
We offer toast in the mornings. If you would like your child to have toast, please pre-pay using the Parent Pay app each half term. Your child will be offered a piece of fruit each day, usually in the afternoon.
Milk and Water Bottles
There is no charge for milk for children under 5 years old, however if your child is five or above on or before 7th September 2021 you are required to pay for their milk via ParentPay. Milk is free if you are entitled to benefit related free school meals, however you need to advise the office team, if you would like your child adding to the milk list, this is not done automatically to prevent waste.
Water is always available. Please ensure your child brings their own, named water bottle and we ask you to take it home at the end of the day and bring it back refreshed the next day.
Dinner times
Pupils eat their lunch between 11:30 and 12:00. We will provide menus for parents to choose which meals they would prefer their children to have.
Entrance to School
School starts at 8:55am. Please line up with your child at the Reception door within the Reception playground.
Please do not allow your children to play on any of the equipment before or after School for health and safety reasons.
Collecting from school
If you have other children in the school, please collect your Reception child first. School finishes at 3.15. Reception will open their doors at 3.10pm. The collection point is the same as in the morning.
If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register.
If you have any queries or questions, then please come in and see us either between 8:45am – 8:55am or after school. If neither of those times are available, please contact the office to make an appointment.
We hope your children will be very happy in Reception, and we look forward to working with them.
Reading and Homework
We place great emphasis on books and storytelling and your role in this is also very important. We would appreciate it if you could read a book with your child each night. It is helpful if your child has a book-bag to bring to school each day. We will use it to send home school library books, art work etc and school letters. Reception change their library books on Mondays. Please ensure your child brings it back the following week so they can swap it for a new one for you to share at home.
School Uniform
Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.
Due to Covid-19 guidance windows will be need to be open to provide ventilation for most of the school day. If the weather is cold, please provide your child with an extra layer to keep warm. This does not need to be in school colours.
School Fund
School fund is 50p per week. Please contribute through Parent Pay each half term. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and playtime games.
