Welcome to Reception
We warmly welcome you to Reception. This year your child will be working with Mrs Evans Monday-Wednesday and Mrs Doherty, Wednesday – Friday. Mrs Parish and Mrs Wovenden will support throughout the week.
Our first topic will be ‘All About Me’.
Please ensure your child has a kit bag with a spare full set of clothes including socks and underwear. This is in case of toileting accidents as well as for messy activities.
Your child will also require a PE kit. Current guidance means we would like your child to come dressed for PE on their PE day. Reception’s PE day in Thursday. PE kit consists of black joggers/leggings or shorts, a white round neck t-shirt and trainers.
It is important that their kit is clearly named.
Playtime & Snacks
Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day, usually in the afternoon. Toast is available each morning, if you would like your child to have toast the cost is £5.25 per half- term and must be paid by ParentPay as we can no longer accept cash in the classroom.
Milk and Water Bottles
Milk in the Reception Class is only free until your child is 5. After that please pay via ParentPay. Please let us know if you do not wish your child to have milk. Water is always available. Your child is welcome to bring their own, named water bottle and we ask you to take it home at the end of the day and bring it back refreshed the next day.
We currently have a two weekly rolling dinner menu. We will ask your child which option they would like in the morning. There is no charge for School meals in Reception under the Universal Free School Meal Scheme.
Entrance to School
The entrance for Reception Class is through the Nursery playground pedestrian gate and Reception staff will greet your child at the red gate. Unfortunately, parents are not allowed into the school. If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late.
Please do not allow your children to play on any of the equipment before or after School for health and safety reasons.
Collecting from school
If you have other children in the school please collect your Nursery/Reception children first. We open the door at 3.10pm. The collection point is the classroom door.
If you have any questions or worries, please contact the office to make a telephone appointment.
We hope your children will be very happy in Reception, and we look forward to working with them.
Reading and Homework
We place great emphasis on books and storytelling and your role in this is also very important. You can help with this by reading your child a bedtime story every night. Please ensure that your child has their book bag in school every day, we will use it so send home work/pictures or school letters. They will be given a reading book in the first term. We aim to provide a new book on Mondays and would like it to be returned on Friday of that week. Please ensure you read it together each week day.
Reception will visit the school library on Monday. Your child will choose a book to borrow for the week. Please ensure your child shares it at home and brings it back the following Friday so they can swap it for a new one.
Please remember to label your child’s uniform clearly (especially their jumpers and cardigans) and encourage them to put jumpers/cardigans in their tray if they take them off.
School fund is £3.50 per half term and can be paid through Parent Pay. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and playtime games.
All the children will be in a key group – either Starfish or Pufferfish. We firmly believe that these smaller groups help the children to feel secure within a large class, and help to develop relationships, both with other children and members of staff. The children will be in these groups for library visits and other times as well.
