Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

This year, your child will be working with Miss Cooper (class teacher) and Miss Harris (teaching assistant). Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying all curriculum areas throughout the year. We will be settling pupils back into school routines over the first couple of weeks and will focus on their wellbeing.

PE

PE lessons will be on a Wednesday so please ensure your child brings the correct PE kit and appropriate footwear in a bag to school on this day. The PE kit consists of pumps/trainers, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and a plain white T-shirt which are clearly labelled with your child’s name. PE lessons will be outdoors until further notice.

Playtime & Snacks

Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break. If you wish your child to have milk, please order this from the office one half term in advance otherwise only water can be drunk. Toast is available at playtime. This must be pre-paid for using parent Pay each half term.

Entrance to School

Pupils in Year 1 will enter through the main gate. The gates will be opened at 8:45 in the morning and 3:10pm in the afternoon.

Register is taken at 8:50 and classroom doors will be locked at this time. If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. You will not be able to accompany your child to the classroom.

If you have any questions or worries, then please phone the office and they may be able to answer your concern or make a telephone appointment.

We hope your children will be very happy in Year 1, and we look forward to working with them.

Reading and Homework

It is very important that your child reads for 20 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to show this. Some books that your child takes home will be to practice reading skills, others are for you to share with your child. We will keep records of the books your child has read in school.  It is also very important that your child has their book in school every day.

Year 1 will have their phonic book changed every Monday but reading for pleasure books can be brought in any day of the week to be changed.

School Uniform

Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.
