Welcome to Year 2
This year your child will be working with Miss Gregory (class teacher), Miss Bradshaw and Lisa Brough. There is a ‘Meet the Teacher and Curriculum Evening’ after school on Wednesday 12th September if you would like to introduce yourself and have an informal chat! Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying various topics throughout the year. Our first topic is Science, where we will be learning all about ‘Plants’.
PE will be on a Monday afternoon, so please ensure you child’s kit is in school on this day. The PE kit consists of a bag that contains pumps/trainers, blue shorts and a plain white Tshirt, which are clearly labelled with your child’s name. In case of colder weather, blue or black leggings or trackies can be worn.
Playtime & Snacks
Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break (10:40 am). If you wish your child to have milk, please order this from the office one half term in advance otherwise water will be provided. Toast is available at playtime at 15p a slice, and children are responsible for their own toast money. Drinks are available at lunch time for 30p.
Entrance to School
Please encourage your child to line up in the playground ready for the morning whistle.
If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. After using the breakfast café, please go on to the playground.
If you have any questions or worries then please come in and see me either between 8:45am- 8:55am or after school. If these times are not possible please contact the office to make an appointment.
We hope your children will be very happy in Year 2 and we look forward to working with them.
Reading and Homework
1. It is very important that your child reads for 20 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to evidence this. It is also very important that your child has their book bag in school every day, as an adult will collect all reading records to keep a note of how often your child reads at home. From this record, House points will be awarded to your child, and any adjustments can be made.
2. On Mondays your child will be given a spelling list, which they will be tested on the following Friday. The spelling list given will contain 5 words, on test day they will be tested on those words. We advise the children to practice their spellings three times per week minimum for optimum results.
3. Maths will also be set on Mondays, and will consist of one page. This can be handed in during the week, but the deadline will be Friday. If your child completes more pages than outlined, it will not be marked until the Friday of the week it would have been set.
Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers and cardigans – this helps with mix-ups and ensures lost items can be returned!
School fund is 50p a week and will be collected every Monday. It is possible to pay half termly. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and prizes.
