Year 3
Welcome to Year 3
This year your child will be working with Mrs Mansell (class teacher) and Miss Brough. Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying all curriculum areas throughout the year.
PE
PE lessons will be on Thursday. Children will now get changed for PE at school, so please ensure your child brings their PE kit and appropriate footwear to school on that day. The PE kit consists of pumps/trainers, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and a plain white T-shirt that are clearly labelled with your child’s name. PE lessons will be outdoors until further notice.
Playtime & Snacks
Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break. If you wish your child to have milk, please order by following the instruction in the emails from the office one half term in advance, otherwise only water can be drunk. Toast is available at playtime- this must be pre-paid using ParentPay.
Entrance to School
Register is taken at 8:55 and classroom doors will be locked at this time. If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. You will not be able to accompany your child to the classroom.
If you have any questions or worries, then please phone the office and they may be able to answer your concern or make a telephone appointment.
We hope your children will be very happy in Year 3, and we look forward to working with them.
Kind regards,
Mrs Mansell
Reading and Homework
It is very important that your child reads for 20 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to show this. Some books that your child takes home will be to practice reading skills, others are for you to share with your child. We will keep records of the books your child has read in school. It is also very important that your child has their book in school on every day.
Year 3 will have their phonic book changed every Friday but reading for pleasure books can be brought in any day of the week to be changed.
Maths
A Maths homework sheet will be sent out every Monday and is expected to be completed and handed in by Friday morning. This homework should not take you child more than 20 minutes to complete and if your child is struggling with the work please see Mrs Mansell.
Additionally, a weekly times table test will be set on our Purple Mash platform. This again will be set on a Monday and is required to be completed by Friday. In Year 3, it is important that your child is working on answering these facts fluently and therefore we will be working towards having a time limit on this test by the end of term. We will be focusing on x3 x4 and x8 as well as previously taught tables (x2, x5, and x10) throughout the year. Once again if there any problems accessing the test or your child completing this, then please come and discuss this with me.
School Uniform
Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.
Our uniform can be found here
School Fund
School fund is 50p per week. Please contribute through Parent Pay each half term. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and playtime games.
