Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

This year your child will be working with Mr Bossons (class teacher), Marissa and Mrs Thornley. Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying all curriculum areas throughout the year.

We will be settling pupils back into school routines over the first couple of weeks and will focus on their wellbeing.

PE

PE lessons will be on Tuesday so please ensure your child brings the correct PE kit and appropriate footwear in a bag to school on this day. The PE kit consists of pumps/trainers, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and a plain white T-shirt which are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Playtime & Snacks

Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break. If you wish your child to have milk, please order this from the office one half term in advance otherwise only water can be consumed. Toast is available at playtime. This must be pre-paid for using parent Pay each half term

Entrance to School

Register is taken at 8:55 and classroom doors will be locked at this time. If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. You will not be able to accompany your child to the classroom.

Reading and Homework

Reading

It is very important that your child reads for 20 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to show this. Some books that your child takes home will be to practice reading skills, others are for you to share with your child. We will keep records of the books your child has read in school.  It is also very important that your child has their book in school every day.

As books are typically longer in Key Stage 2, Year 4 will all be asked if they need to change their books each Friday. However, if your child has finished their book and requires a new one, please let us know on any day and we can change it.

 Maths

A Maths homework sheet will be sent out every Monday and is expected to be completed and handed in by Friday morning.  This homework should not take your child more than 20 minutes to complete and if your child is struggling with the work please see Mr Bossons.

Additionally, a weekly times table test will be set on our Purple Mash platform. This again will be set on a Monday and is required to be completed by Friday. In Year 4, it is important that your child is working on answering these facts fluently with the national Multiplication Tables Check taking place at the end of the year. We will be focusing on all times tables throughout the year. Once again if there any problems accessing the test or your child completing this then please come and discuss this with Mr Bossons.

Music- MAPAS

Year 4 children will be taking part in a music programme run by MAPAS (Music and Performing Arts Salford). This will involve your child learning to play and compose music on a musical instrument. As part of the programme, your child will be able to bring the musical instrument home to practice before a performance at the Lowry Theatre at the end of the year, which you will be invited to come and watch.

School Uniform

Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.

School Fund

School fund is 50p per week. Please contribute through Parent Pay each half term. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and playtime games.

We hope your children will be very happy in Year 4, and we look forward to working with them.

 Kind regards,

Mr Bossons, Marissa and Mrs Thornley
