Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
This year, Mr Bossons and Mrs Chaplin will be teaching your child as well as Mrs Hughes on a Monday afternoon. Below are some useful pieces of information but should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
PE
PE lessons will be on a Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon for the first term. Please could your child come to school on Wednesdays wearing their PE kit and have their school uniform in a bag to change in to after the lesson. Please could your child come in their uniform on a Thursday with their PE kit in a bag. The PE kit consists of pumps/trainers, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and a plain white T-shirt which are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Entrance to School
Register is taken at 8:55 and classroom doors will be locked at this time. If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. You will not be able to accompany your child to the classroom.
Reading and Homework
Reading
It is very important that your child reads at home as much as possible. Your child will be bringing home books suitable to their current level of ability in reading. It would be fantastic if you could support your child by reading with them to continue their progress. If your child can read and have their reading record signed a minimum of three times a week, they will earn a reward for our Reading Race, which they can then cash in at the end of the half term for a prize.
Maths
At the end of Year 4, your child will be taking part in a national multiplication tables check, which is compulsory for all Year 4 children across the country to complete. As such, in Year 4 we will be placing an emphasis practicing times tables facts which are not only useful for the tables check, but their progress in all areas of the maths curriculum.
A times tables homework sheet will be sent out every Monday and is expected to be completed and handed in by Friday morning. This homework should not take your child more than 20 minutes to complete and if your child is struggling with the work, please see Mr Bossons who will be happy to provide support. A weekly times tables test will also be set on Purple Mash for your child to complete focussing on a different times table each week. This again will be set on Monday and is expected to be completed by Friday.
Music- MAPAS
Year 4 children will be taking part in a music programme run by MAPAS (Music and Performing Arts Salford). This will involve your child learning to play and compose music on a musical instrument. As part of the programme, your child will be able to bring the musical instrument home to practice before a performance at the Lowry Theatre at the end of the year, which you will be invited to come and watch.
School Uniform
Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers, cardigans and coats.
We hope your children will be very happy in Year 4, and we look forward to working with them.
Kind regards,
Mr Bossons
