Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

This year your child will be working with Mrs Tiernan, Miss Serrano and Miss Parry. There is a ‘Meet the Teacher and Curriculum Evening’ afterchool, on Wednesday 12th September if you would like to introduce yourself and have an informal chat! Your child will continue to develop their English and Maths skills as well as studying various topics throughout the year. Our first topic is Earth and Space.

PE will be on a Monday and Thursday, so please ensure your child’s kit is in school on that day. The PE kit consists of a bag that contains pumps/trainers, blue shorts and a plain white T-shirt which are clearly labelled with your child’s name. In case of colder weather, blue or black leggings or trackies can be worn.

Playtime & Snacks

Your child will receive a piece of fruit each day at morning break (10:40am). If you wish your child to have milk, please order this from the office one half term in advance otherwise only water can be drunk. Toast is available at playtime at 15p a slice, and children in Year 2 and above are responsible for their own toast money. Drinks are available at lunch time for 30p.

Entrance to School

Please encourage your child to line up in the playground ready for the morning whistle.

If you are late to school, please take your child to the school office to register and explain why you are late. After using the breakfast cafe, please go on to the playground.

If you have any questions or worries then please come in and see me either between 8:45am – 8:55am or after school.

If these times are not possible please contact the office to make an appointment.

I hope your children will be very happy in Year 5 and I look forward to working with them.

Kind regards,

Mrs Tiernan

Reading and Homework

It is very important that your child reads for 10 minutes every night, and their reading record book is completed to show this, by you or by them. It is also very important that your child has their book in school every day. They will also be given spellings to learn on Monday for a test the following Friday. Maths booklets will also be given out for homework on a Monday to be returned by Friday.

School Uniform

Please remember to label your child’s uniform, especially their jumpers and cardigans – this helps with mix-ups and ensures lost items can be returned!

School Fund

School fund is 50p a week and will be collected every Monday. It is possible to pay half termly. Please remember this as it helps subsidise trips and buy equipment for the children, such as certificates and House point prizes.
